Cent ans de Neon (100 years of Neon) is planned as a special four day Mobile Neon Workshop in Paris, to commemorate the first neon sign that was installed there in 1912. Four neon makers from the UK, America and France, will introduce eight participants to neon through theory, practice, demos and evening lectures. Participants will leave with neon work they have made or directed in making.

Experience with glass and neon is not necessary. It is a unique and mysterious medium that few have had chance to gain experience in.  
We cater for all experiences and will help you make your ideas in light.

Participants will be taught by neon maker Julia Bickerstaff, and artist Richard William Wheater, learning everything from transcribing ideas into neon drawings to filling their glass forms with gas. At the end of the day everyone takes home a piece of neon they have designed and helped make or directed in making. Experience is not necessary.

Session 1: 10am - 12:30pm

A two and a half hour taster on what neon is, what it can be and how to make it. See glowing examples of neon art explained, expect mesmerising demonstrations of cutting, blowing, stretching, bending and fusing glass with flame, filling with gas and illuminating with electricity. Experience the chance to have a go yourself under tuition and take home the results!

Hire | £10
per person, per hour (£60 per day)

With access to such affrdable neon making facilities, finishing a workshop doesn't have to mark the end of your experiences with neon ...it can be the beggining! Practice, play, make your neon night and day with tech on hand. Price does not include materials, which can be paid for up front or as you go along. Hire is for ex-workshop participants only. Please note, as there are limited places available per course, it is advised to confirm early to avoid disappointment. On received payment, your place will be confirmed and the remaining necessary workshop itinerary will be forwarded. If you wish to withdraw from the course you will receive full reimbursement provided a minimum of 28 days notice has been given before course date.

Course price does not include transformer/power supply. There are a wide range available varying in voltage and milliamps. Transformers are available from Neon Workshops on the day: £45 for low voltage and £65 for all our high voltage transformers. Unless you know the exact length and diameter of glass and choice of gas you wish to use, please don’t purchase until the work is made.

Food and lodgings are not included in the course fee however cafes and fast food outlets are very close by. We also have a list on request of recommended places to stay within a stones throw from the workshop.
